A Promise

In honor of Amy and Kelly’s wedding day,
Oceanside, on Olde Cape Cod, October 6, 2002,
where Linda Devlin-Zinck and Judy Hanlon
(the two moms) sang this lullaby of love to their
children during the reception.

Long ago when you were little,
with legs not so long
We’d gather you in our arms
to sing a sweet song
Lullaby, Papa loves you,
Lullaby, Grandma, too
Lullaby, "You Are a Promise"
And Jesus loves you.
Today we sing, yes we sing,
that love has gone on
As we watch you laugh and promise love
We sing this sweet song
Of a mother’s love, a father’s love
Of friends gathered here
Of sisters and cousins come
To dance and to cheer
We sing "AMAZING GRACE”
How sweet the sound
"We are Family"
And the ocean beats
the rhythm of love’s mystery.
Long ago when you were little,
with eyes clear and bright
We’d sing you a story,
to last through the night
Lullaby, of growing up,
Lullaby, a wedding day
Lullaby, of a fancy ball
And of lands far away.
It’s your turn, now, you’ll sing,
as you travel along
You will hold your babies close at night
And sing a sweet song
Of a mother’s love and a father’s love
Of a God who stays near
Of families you can count on
To dance and to cheer
And sing, Amazing Grace
how sweet the sound
We are God’s family
Then, remember the ocean sound
and love faithfully.
Long ago when you were little,
we sang you love’s song.
With mother’s hearts, we rest assured,
the song will go on!

With Love, From your MOMS!
